The Hui-style attic is the vertical room of Huizhou houses: timber balustrades and the curved beauty-seat rail surround the skywell, with the upper floor serving as a boudoir or study, its carved panels and lattice windows among the finest of Chinese joinery. Light falls from high above into the hall below - the four roofs draining into one courtyard. WANGE's brick attic recreates that world beneath the matou gables.
