The Petronas Twin Towers in central Kuala Lumpur were completed in 1998 to a design by Cesar Pelli: 451.9 metres and 88 storeys, then the tallest buildings in the world. Their plans unfold from an eight-pointed Islamic star, and a double-deck skybridge links the towers at levels 41-42, cantilevered from each side - among the highest skybridges ever built. Stainless steel and glass catch the equatorial sun like silver rainforest, the national icon of Malaysia.
