About Architecture · Hankow Customs House,Wuhan,China

The Jianghan Customs House stands on Yanjiang Avenue in Hankou, Wuhan, completed in 1924 as the office of the Hankou customs. Designed by Hemmens & Berkley in Greek neoclassical style, its granite eight-storey body carries four giant Ionic columns across three storeys, crowned by a clock tower whose four dials exceed three metres - the chimes are an enduring memory of old Hankou. Once the tallest building of the former concession, it is now a museum.
