The London Eye stands on the South Bank of the Thames. Designed by the husband-and-wife team Julia Barfield and David Marks for the millennium, it opened in March 2000. The wheel is 120 metres in diameter and 135 metres tall, with 32 enclosed capsules cantilevered outside the rim - with no central structure through the hub it was then the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel. A full revolution takes about half an hour, with views up to 25 miles across London.
