The Hall of Supreme Harmony, popularly the Golden Throne Hall, is the principal hall of the Forbidden City's outer court and the first of the East's three great halls. Rebuilt in 1695, it spans eleven bays, standing about 35 metres overall (26.92 metres of hall atop a triple white-marble terrace) with 2,377 square metres of floor - the largest timber hall in China. Its double-eaved hipped roof is of the highest rank, its ten roof beasts unique, and seventy-two great columns ring the throne beneath a gilded dragon caisson: the stage of Ming and Qing state ceremony.
