The Customs House stands on the Bund in Shanghai, completed in 1927 to a design by Palmer & Turner as the finale of the Bund's ensemble. About 90 metres tall with an eight-storey granite facade, it runs giant Doric columns through its centre, crowned by a clock tower with four 5.4-metre dials - Asia's largest clock, made by the same maker as Big Ben. Its chimes still keep time on the Bund, and the building tells the story of Shanghai's trade and finance since the port opened.
