Sihang Warehouse,Shanghai,China

The Sihang Warehouse stands on the north bank of Suzhou Creek in Shanghai. Built in 1935 as a joint bonded warehouse of four banks, it is a six-storey reinforced-concrete block. In the final days of the 1937 Battle of Shanghai, Xie Jinyuan and his Eight Hundred Heroes held the building for four days and nights; the pockmarked west wall is preserved intact with a memorial square. Today it is a rare on-site war memorial museum, its structure, scarred brickwork and riverside facade forming an authentic historical scene.
